Welcome to 8th Grade English Language Arts

Hello, I'm Miss K and I want to welcome you to 8th Grade English Language Arts!
Please check your classes Schoology page for all things quarantine!

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Elyse Johnson -- Mrs. Lady Johnson -- and I am so excited to be at Rocky Fork Middle School! Here is just a little bit of information about me in case we haven't met in the hallways or if you're completely new to the school; I am what we like to call an "OG" teacher here at RFMS, because I have been at this school since the first day it opened.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the same town where both of my parents grew up -- I actually attended the same high school that both of my parents graduated from as well. After high school I realized the love I have for the city I grew up in so I chose to continue my education at the University of Pittsburgh where I got my bachelor's degree in English with a focus in writing and poetry analysis and then stayed to obtain my master's degree in 7-12 English and Special Education. After graduation I stayed in Pittsburgh for a year to teach at a local district, and although I loved the city of Pittsburgh, I knew greater things were waiting for me south of the Mason Dixon. So I came down here to Tennessee and have been here ever since. Reading and writing has always been something I found comfort in, and it is my ultimate goal to show my students how they can escape through written language. In my time away from the classroom I enjoy running and biking; drinking green or chai tea at different cafes; exploring new places with my friends; and visiting with my family in Pittsburgh. I have the most wonderful family; my husband, Bradley -- who is currently studying law at CSU and my daughter, Baylor -- who is starting Kindergarten this year as McFadden Mustang. There is nothing better than spending time with them and watching us all grow and change into new versions of ourselves each day!

If there is anything that you have questions about or want to discuss with me please do not hesitate to reach out! I look forward to a fun and productive year in 8th grade English!
